Welcome, family in faith, to thewayseekers.com. Today, we pause to honor the Most High, Yahuah, our Elohim, through the profound and beautiful words of Psalms 8. This psalm is a powerful reminder of God’s greatness, His care for humanity, and His sovereign rule over all creation. It invites us to worship and revere Yahuah’s Holy Name with hearts full of awe and gratitude.
The Excellence of Yahuah’s Name
The psalm opens with a heartfelt declaration:
Oh Yahuah, our Adon,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens!
Here, “Adon” means “Lord” or “Master,” reflecting Yahuah’s supreme authority. The psalmist praises the excellence of Yahuah’s name—not just in heaven but throughout all the earth. This emphasizes that Yahuah’s glory is not confined; it surpasses even the vastness of the heavens.
The phrase “set Your glory above the heavens” shows us that Yahuah’s majesty is beyond human understanding. The heavens themselves are created by Him and display His power and artistry, yet His glory transcends even that grandeur.
Strength from the Weakest Voices
Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength,
Because of Your enemies,
That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.
This verse reveals an astonishing truth: Yahuah uses the weakest and most vulnerable—babies and infants—to demonstrate His strength. In a world full of enemies and adversaries against His people, Elohim’s power is made perfect through those who seem powerless. This teaches us that human strength is not what silences opposition; it is Yahuah’s divine strength working through humble vessels.
It also points to a spiritual principle: God often works through what the world considers weak or insignificant to accomplish His purposes and silence opposition.

The Majesty of Creation and Elohim’s Mindfulness of Man
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
The psalmist marvels at creation—the heavens, moon, and stars, all crafted by Yahuah’s own hands (“the work of Your fingers”). This imagery highlights Elohim as a master craftsman whose works are vast and awe-inspiring.
Against this backdrop, the psalmist asks a poignant question: why would such a majestic Creator care about humanity? Why does He remember us and visit us? This question expresses both wonder and gratitude. Despite our smallness compared to the universe, Yahuah chooses to be mindful of us.
Humanity’s Honored Role
For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
All sheep and oxen—
Even the beasts of the field,
The birds of the air, and the fish of the sea
That pass through the paths of the seas.
Here we see humanity’s unique place in Elohim’s creation. Though made “a little lower than the angels” (some translations say “a little lower than God”), humans are crowned with glory and honor. We are given responsibility over all creation—the animals, birds, fish, and every living thing.
This dominion is not a right to exploit but a sacred duty to care for and steward Elohim’s handiwork with wisdom and respect. It speaks to the trust Yahuah places in humanity as caretakers of His creation.
Returning to Praise
The psalm ends as it began:
Oh Yahuah, our Adon,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth!
This repetition underscores the central theme: honoring Yahuah’s holy name. It bookends the reflection on creation and humanity’s place within it with praise for Elohim’s unmatched excellence.
